Editorial policy and authors’ guidelines

Español / English

Cuaderno de Investigación en la Educación is a peer-reviewed academic journal published once a year by the Educational Research Center, College of Education, University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. This publication includes papers that lecture or discuss, with academic rigor, topics of interest in the field of education. Articles submitted for publication must follow the guidelines of the most recent edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA style). Also, it must meet the requirements for the use of inclusive language in terms of gender, race or other diversities (i.e. nationality, ethnicity, religion, among others).

Cuaderno de Investigación en la Educación considers for publication papers written in Spanish or English, in the category of research (usually, 80% of the journal’s content). Sometimes it also includes a section of book or article reviews relevant to the field of education.

Please send original works only. Papers in evaluation or that are about to be published in another journal will not be considered.

Authors interested in submitting collaborations to this journal should send them by email, in Microsoft Word format or some other compatible program (such as Open Office or Libre Office). Works submitted in PDF format or any other non-editable format will not be accepted; those will be returned to the authors.

In a cover page, include the paper title, the name of the author or authors, their academic rank and affiliation, postal address, email and phone number. On the second page, include the title again, this time in Spanish and English; also add a summary in Spanish and English of no more than 150 words each, as well as a list of keywords, in both languages, highlighting the main topics. From the third page onward, include the content of the paper, written in Times New Roman font, size 12 points, and double space. The article should not exceed a maximum of 20 pages, including references, appendices and relevant notes –if any at all– at the end of the article. Book reviews should not exceed five pages.

We encourage authors to send graphs, tables, photographs, diagrams or drawings to complement their work. Authors will be responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to reproduce any material protected by copyright laws, and to present the corresponding evidence at the time of sending a paper.

All papers are subject to a double blind peer review process by at least two experts in their respective topics. If the reviewers disagree as to the assessment of the paper, the Editorial Board will submit it to a third evaluator. Based on the opinion of the peer reviewers, the Editorial Board will decide whether to accept the work as submitted; to accept it conditionally, subject to the author’s compliance with the reviewers’ recommendations, or to reject it.

The first phase of the peer review process usually extends for 45 days from the closing date of the call under which the manuscript was submitted, and in accordance with the scheduled meetings of the Editorial Board. After receiving and considering the reviewers’ recommendations, the Board will inform the author the results of the evaluation, together with any suggestions sent in by the reviewers. If the article is accepted conditionally, the author will have 30 additional days to attend the suggestions and send a new version of the paper. This revision will be subject to a follow-up scrutiny by the same peer reviewers, who shall confirm whether the author has complied with their requests or provided clear and precise arguments for not integrating the changes. If after this second review the author does not comply with what was expected, the article will not be published.

If a paper is not accepted for publication, it is the discretion of the author to address the reasons for which the work was rejected and resubmit it to the consideration of the Editorial Board for an upcoming edition. If so, the manuscript will undergo a new peer revision, and these new evaluators will not necessarily be the same as the previous ones, as this is a new arbitration process for another edition.
