As I said the major advantage of PCIe is serial transmission mode, that's why there is a huge scope of improvements in PCIe. With each generation of PCIe, bandwidth gets doubled. Like bandwidth of PCIe X1 (Gen 1) is 250 GB/s so with the next generation bandwidth of PCIe X1 (Gen 2) is 500 MB/s, and if we calculate the bandwidth of PCIe X16 (Gen 2) then we get 8GB/s. Bandwidth of PCIe X1 (Gen 3) is 1GB/s and PCIe X16 have bandwidth of 16GB/s. The bandwidth of PCIe X1 (Gen 4) is 2GB/s and PCIe X16 (Gen4) has a bandwidth of 32GB. In case if Processor only has 20 PCI lanes support then 16 lanes are allocated for Graphics and 4 for M.2 NVME SSD and if there are multiple PCI slots on the single motherboard then the remaining lanes are connected to Chipset.
