Every time we design a space, a building, a regional plan, we try to make that little bit of reality more like our ideal world. As architects we have the possibility and responsibility to envision the future. Or rather: to create prefigurations of the future we would like to see. With the inspiration of Neuromancer’s author William Gibson’s insight that The future is already here, it's just not very evenly distributed, we realize that the designs that are going to constitute our world in the future, we're actually giving form to in much of our work right now. By hitting the fertile overlap between pragmatic and utopia, we architects once again find the freedom to change the surface of our planet, to better fit contemporary life forms.
