The backup spanned 15 miles around 8 a.m. after the crash, which occurred just after 1 a.m. All lanes of northbound I-5 near South 188th Street in SeaTac remained blocked for hours with the backup stretching all the way to Fife, according to some drivers. KOMO News spoke with drivers who said they sat in standstill traffic for nearly four hours. The roadway reopened at 7:40 a.m. Washington State Patrol troopers investigated the incident, which led to a complete shutdown of a portion of the interstate. The crash involved two vehicles, with the causing driver hitting a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck from behind at a high rate of speed.
